Join Evolve Gallery in Sacramento on January 12th to ring in the new year and celebrate the boxing legend Muhammad Ali’s 70th Birthday!

Artist David Flores and photographer Phil Stern unveiled their joint exhibition at the Phil Stern Gallery showcasing an incredible collection of timeless images blending Stern’s photography and Flores’ unique design. The pictures included iconic personalities ranging from Marilyn Monroe, John F. Kennedy, Frank Sinatra, and James Dean, just to name a few. Having Flores add his design over every one of those photos gave the collection a unique twist which seemed to blend the past and the present almost seamlessly. As we have seen with previous murals painted by Flores such as the James Dean wall (covered), he takes iconic images and reworks them in such a way that the original source feels new and innovative. Of course, the credit also goes to Stern and his collection of superb photos, a variety of which had never been shown to the public before. Overall, the exhibit was certainly a treat to those who were able to attend and it will remain open till February 4th, 2012.

Legendary photographer, Phil Stern, and renowned urban artist, David Flores, have come together to create an entirely one-of-a-kind, ground breaking art exhibition in Los Angeles on December 8, 2011. The unlikely dynamic duo began their partnership in a big way, with a mesmerizing, larger than life, mural of James Deanin Downtown Los Angeles. David Flores’ treatment of Phil Stern’s iconic image shot in 1955 transforms the original with a completely postmodern aesthetic bringing new meaning to the image. This inspiring mural spring boarded a further collaboration between these two prolific artists. Numerous beloved Phil Stern images of luminaries such asMarilyn Monroe, Louis Armstrong, James Deanand Frank Sinatra were chosen to undertake the “Flores Treatment.” To Mr. Stern, David Flores manipulation of his images are “Warholesque” creating a whole new genre in the pop art world. While these two artists from very different generations and backgrounds do not always share the same vision, their goal during this process has always been to protect the integrity of the original, while bringing it new life. Never before have two incredibly talented artists from very different worlds come together to create an art form as innovative as this – a true testament to the timelessness and power of art.

These one-of-a-kind pieces of art will be available exclusively at the Phil Stern Gallery. Due to David Flores’ unique process, no two will ever be alike, so once the original piece has sold, a new rendition will be available on a commission basis only.

You’ve seen the David Flores mural of Phil Stern’s iconic James Dean portrait in down town Los Angeles. Well, earlier this month we sent 92 year old Phil Stern up in a sketchy scissor lift to sign his name with spray paint on the mural himself! There was a great turn out of supportive fans and family alike.
