Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835 – April 21, 1910),[1] better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American author and humorist. He wrote The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885),[2] the latter often called “the Great American Novel.”
Twain grew up in Hannibal, Missouri, which provided the setting for Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. After an apprenticeship with a printer, he worked as a typesetter and contributed articles to his older brother Orion’s newspaper. He later became a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River before heading west to join Orion in Nevada. He referred humorously to his singular lack of success at mining, turning to journalism for the Virginia City Territorial Enterprise.[3] In 1865, his humorous story, “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County” was published, based on a story he heard at Angels Hotel in Angels Camp California where he had spent some time as a miner. The short story brought international attention, even being translated to classic Greek.[4] His wit and satire, in prose and in speech, earned praise from critics and peers, and he was a friend to presidents, artists, industrialists, and European royalty.

“Recently, American artist David Flores was commissioned to create two of the four murals that will cover the walls within The Reserve L.A. Formerly a U.S. Post Office, The Reserve L.A. is a 20-acre site that will house Microsoft and TMZ offices. The project concept states, “The Reserve has all the elements required to act as a catalyst for creativity while supporting business needs and the corporate vision.”

In preparation for the grand opening on May 8, 2013, Branded Arts was commissioned to organize and curate the creative workspace. Using a photo of Albert Einstein as inspiration, Flores created this two-story mural that can be viewed through the glass front building. From a distance, it’s easy to make out Einstein’s eyes, nose and mustache. Then, up close, visitors to the building can appreciate the texture of the bold blocks of bright, vivid paints, set off by thick, black outlined edges.”

Over the weekend, artist David Flores finished a new mural at the new creative campus named “The Reserve L.A.” which is the new home of the Microsoft and TMZ offices. This artistic project for The Reserve is part of several murals that Branded Arts was brought in to organize and curate. Using a photograph of Albert Einstein as his source, Flores created a mural that’s actually made up of two layers, giving it a three-dimensional look. It’s definitely one of his best projects up to date and worth a look up close. Four more murals will take place at this location over the next week and a half. While Flores will paint yet another mural at this location, two other artists involved include Chor Boogie and Aaron De La Cruz.
