KIDROBOT Admitted to the MoMA Collection!!!

New York, NY, January 2nd, 2007 Kidrobot, renowned creator and retailer of limited edition art toys and apparel, is excited to announce that 10 Kidrobot toys have been acquired by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and are now part of the museums collection!

Three toys are currently on display as part of the museums Just In: Recent Acquisitions from the Collection installation. Included are Hello My Name Is Dunny (by Kidrobot Founder and President Paul Budnitz, Tristan Eaton and Huck Gee), Bad Dunny (by Paul Budnitz, Tristan Eaton and David Flores) and MUNNY 3 (by Paul Budnitz and Tristan Eaton). Seven other Kidrobot acquisitions include paints by artists Deph, Cycle, Thomas Han, Kenzo Minami, Doma, Tilt and Frank Kozik.

“I grew up staring at the bubble glass helicopter hanging from the ceiling of the old MoMA, and I am totally honored to be part of the permanent collection, says Kidrobot Founder and President Paul Budnitz. “Dunny and MUNNY were designed to be an ideal artist’s canvas. The whole idea is to disarm our critical minds so we can be freely creative. These pieces say, You can do it! Don’t be afraid! Be creative! It’s really all about letting go and expressing yourself, and the realization that you can’t do anything wrong.

MoMAs Just In: Recent Acquisitions from the Collection installation, on view through November 30th, 2008, draws from acquisitions made over the past two years by the Department of Architecture and Design, many exhibited here for the first time. The selection represents the diversity found in contemporary design practice, with a focus on the latest innovations in architectural, industrial, and graphic design. In addition to Kidrobot, highlights include Mattias Bengtsson’s Spun Chaise Lounge, woven from carbon fiber on a robotic arm developed by NASA; videos and drawings of Diller + Scofidio’s ephemeral mist construction, the Blur Building; and a selection of designs from the graphic design firm 2×4.
